When your life changes, so must your Will. Take action this National Wills Week!
Perhaps you put a Will in place when you got married, had kids or bought your first home. How long ago was that? Life changes and the ACT Public Trustee and Guardian are urging all adults to take some time to review their Wills and estate planning during National Wills Week, running from 31 August to 4 September 2026. It’s important that everyone over the age of 18 has a Will and that your Will aligns with your current wishes.
This year National Wills Week aims to encourage all adults, particularly those aged 65+, to take the crucial step of creating or updating their wills and estate plans. The ACT Public Trustee and Guardian is dedicated to ensuring the ACT Community has access to up to date and relevant information about these important life decisions.
A will isn’t just about high value assets either.
If you have a pet, car, superannuation, jewellery, or collectables you can express your wishes about what happens to these. You can even state what happens with your social media accounts and who will look after your kids.
- Research shows that most people aged 65+ have a Will in place but may not have reviewed this for many years.
- We are urging people to review their estate planning and ensure this is up to date to avoid any potential issues for their loved ones in the future.
- To update or prepare a Will people can make an appointment with a solicitor or community legal centre to prepare a Will which reflects your current wishes.
- The Public Trustee and Guardian offer free Wills for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
